BOLENCIOGO (I AM BB)
is a series of fictionalized advertising campaign imagery following cult fashion house Balenciaga's total dasein or inescapable existence. Like many other designer brands, the clear acknowledgment of political ideology and identity politics are synonymous with aesthetic; and in turn, aesthetic as wavering as the Overton window. Even in the presence of counterfeit and intentional typos, designer brands are easily recognizable, pointing to their shadowy cast over mainstream society. Presence is quantifiable and therefore, easily monetized. Presence becomes a mode of investment leading to stasis, a bottomless goldmine that requires crises to continue. With BOLENCIOGO (I AM BB), the series of images reinsert themselves into the vicious cycle of neoliberalism that imbues itself with covert fascism.
